Falling In Love All Over Again

Friday August 19th seemed to take years to arrive. Having made the appointment the first time I saw Doctor Smith, I had been waiting for the ultrasound for four weeks. Now, I do get to see our twins every time I go to a doctor’s appointment, but this was the first appointment that I was going to have new pictures of our little ones since I was six weeks pregnant.

The only problem with that appointment was that I had to be up, functional and in the hospital by 8:30 in the morning. For those of you who know me, I am NOT a morning person and the only time that I see 8:30 in the morning is when I am having trouble sleeping from the night before.

Josh was working nights the day before, so I was going to be meeting him at the hospital when he was finished his shift. The poor guy was going to be dead tired, so I decided, on my way to pick him up a coffee. The bear may not appear if he is subdued with kindness and coffee! I missed the opportunity to get him breakfast as his supervisor knew about his long morning to come and had gotten him a bacon and egg McMuffin, and hash browns with a coffee! She knows about the bear too!

Josh and I got to the hospital at about 7:45am, and then the wait began. It must have felt much longer to Josh, having been up the entire night before. We sat, we talked, we sat some more, and then we talked some more. Eventually I got impatient and decided to ring the little bell beside the closed window in the waiting room for the ultrasound. A very lovely lady opened the window and commented on how early we were before taking my health card and getting my paperwork together. After I sat back down to wait, yet again, we kept chatting about different things. Eventually the clock began to reach 8:30 and people started to fill up the little waiting room. Before it got too claustrophobic, my name was called and we were off to a different room.

The lights were dim and the first thing I could think of is that fact that this had the potential for Josh to fall asleep! The P.A. system saved him there though, every time there was an announcement he jerked in his chair ready to run. The poor guy can’t seem to get out of work mode!

After pulling up my shirt and waiting for the familiar cold jelly to be squirted onto my tummy, I became pleasantly surprised at the warmth when it was applied. I can tell you I like getting an ultrasound in that office!! The set up was neat too! There were two screens, one for the lady completing the scan and one for us to watch. So I got to lay there completely comfortable and watch as our little ones came into focus.

As the anatomy ultrasound was being completed we got to see little fingers, legs, arms, tiny little hands and soon to be chubby little tummies! The sensation I was feeling as I saw every little bit of our twins was phenomenal. I can tell you this; I have never been so excited for the day I was going to meet someone as I am about the day our children are to be born.

Finally at the end of the appointment it was time to learn what we were going to be having. Before I didn’t want to know, but as the appointment came closer I became more and more curious as to what was growing inside of me. A little princess? A hockey player? One of each? Baby B was the first to reveal! Having been the last one to have anatomy scanned the nice lady began searching to see if the little legs were open for us. I did NOT need her to tell me what that one was! Baby B had his little winky standing proud for Mommy and Daddy to see!

A little boy! I was even more excited now! Josh had a shine in his eyes that I knew was from finding out he was going to be having a son.

Then it was Baby A’s turn. It took her a little longer for Baby A, but then his little winky appeared too!!

Two little boys!!! As Josh’s dearest friend said it, “Two pro hockey players in the making.”

Needless to say, it was a very exciting first appointment of the day.  After getting our newest pictures of our little men, we headed back over to the clinic for our appointment with Doctor Smith. Doctor Smith said that both of our boys look great!

After our initial appointment was finished, I asked for the senior resident to leave the room and had my discussion about Doctor Davies. Doctor Smith understood and said that the only time I would have to worry about it, would be if Doctor Smith had a concern and needed to have me seen and he was not available. I also had to be prepared for Doctor Davies to deliver my children just in case he was the Doctor on call. I was fine with all of this discussion, as I know that if Doctor Davies upsets me during the delivery he is going to, not only get a piece of my mind, but of Josh’s as well.

So another week has passed, we will be 20 weeks this coming Sunday and I couldn’t be happier! Time is really flying now, and I can even feel our little guys moving around, probably practicing their hockey moves for Dad!

Their room is all set up now and looks great! I find myself walking in there, sitting in my rocking chair and running my hands over my belly. I think about how our lives are and all of the wonderful people around us and I think about all of the people that already love our boys. I think of the Grandma’s, Grandpa’s, Nana’s, Papa’s, Auntie’s and Uncles, I think of the cousins and friends, I couldn’t think of a better family to bring these two boys into.  I would like to take this time and thank all of you who have been there for us every step of the way, not just when it comes to this pregnancy, but life in general. I am happy to have each and every one of you in, both ours and our boy’s lives.
